A Registered Therapy Dog
The Reading Partnership Program allows children to practice reading to Coco at schools, hospitals, and libraries. The goal is to help improve the literary skills of children, reduce self-consciousness, and enhance self-esteem. We have participated in reading programs throughout Massachusetts with children from age four to seven. Children select and read a book to Coco for approximately 15 minutes. This program is designed to help children develop self confidence and public speaking skills.
Claire and Coco have visited with children, seniors, and those in need at a variety of hospitals, schools, libraries, and kid friendly places in Massachusetts including the NNICU at Franciscan Children’s Hospital in Brighton, the Children’s Museum in Boston, the Ventress Library in Marshfield, the Reading Library, the Rockland Library, and Derby Academy in Hingham. Coco will spend between 15 and 20 minutes one-on-one with each individual and offers comfort and support during challenging times. This program is especially designed for children to offer play time and a distraction from their everyday lives and for seniors to reconnect with a pet after leaving their homes. We have also visited a variety of facilities that cater to our senior friends at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Jamaica Plain, Evans Park Assisted Living in Newton, and The Marshfield Senior Center.
We are working with teachers and organizations to design a program for children with special needs and autism. Check this site for more information in the coming weeks.
